Teignmouth Holcombe Beach is a small cove located at the base of cliffs between Teignmouth and Dawlish. The beach is a sandy cove, approximately 650 metres wide, backed by cliffs and a railway line. It is a narrow strip of sand and shingle, flanked by dramatic red cliffs, with a low sea wall running alongside, allowing for a walk to Teignmouth.
Access to the beach is via a steep descent down Smugglers Lane from the nearby village of Holcombe, which has picturesque thatched cottages and a couple of pubs. There are limited parking spots near the beach, but these can be difficult to navigate and may be taken quickly. Toilets are available at a small kiosk that sells drinks, snacks, and ice creams, but use is restricted to customers or available for a small charge.
The beach is fairly quiet and primarily used by locals for activities such as fishing, swimming, and exploring rockpools. A variety of seabirds can be spotted, as well as the occasional dolphin. The beach is also dog-friendly all year round, allowing furry friends to roam and play.
However, access to the beach is currently under threat due to Network Rail's proposals to realign the railway away from the unstable cliffs. If these engineering works take place, it is likely to adversely affect access to the beach.
Teignmouth Holcombe Beach is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
