Weymouth Central Beach is a sand and shingle beach, approximately one kilometre wide, situated close to Weymouth town and harbour. The beach is a curving arc of golden sand, adjacent to the town centre, with Weymouth pier at the southern end. The bay is sheltered, providing a safe and ideal location for swimming, with a gradually sloping sea bed.
The beach offers a range of facilities, including disabled parking, a free beach wheelchair for hire, ramps leading to the sand from the long, flat, attractive promenade, windbreaks and deckchairs for hire, and numerous food choices. During summer, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, such as donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows, water sports, kayaking, canoeing, pedalo rides, crazy golf, and a fun fair. The beach is also patrolled by RNLI lifeguards and beach attendants from 1 May to around the end of September.
The beach has a range of accessible facilities, including public toilets, accessible toilets, baby change, and shower facilities. A Lost Children service is also available, and there is a First Aid point on the beach. Dogs are not allowed on the main central beach or Lodmoor from Good Friday to the end of October and must always be on lead on The Esplanade, but there is an allocated exercise area near the Pavilion.
Weymouth Beach holds Blue Flag and Seaside Awards and is recommended by the Marine Conservation Society.
Weymouth Central Beach is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
