Overcombe Beach is situated just under two miles east of Weymouth, making it a convenient escape from the town. The beach is easily accessible by car, with free parking spaces available along the road, although these can fill up quickly in peak season.
The beach at Overcombe is a wide shingle beach that offers a very different feel to the rest of Weymouth, with very little in the way of development. As the tide goes out, an expanse of sand is exposed, making it an ideal spot for building sandcastles and digging in. The water is relatively shallow in places, and the beach is considered relatively safe for swimmers due to the zoning of the water to keep bathers separate from watersport enthusiasts.
Overcombe Beach offers a range of facilities and activities, including a beach shop selling everything you need for a beach day out and equipment rentals. The beach is a popular spot for kite-surfers, kayakers, and paddleboarders, who flock here to take advantage of the excellent conditions. A beachfront café, known as the Café Oasis, offers stunning sea views and a range of food and drink options. There are also tables outside the café, perfect for enjoying a meal or snack while taking in the views.
Behind the beach, a large grassy area is suitable for games and picnics. The nearby Loadmoor Nature Reserve, located on the other side of Preston Road, is home to a variety of birds, including terns, bearded tits, and warblers, and offers spectacular displays of migratory birds in the autumn months. The adjacent Loadmoor Country Park offers a range of recreational facilities, including a miniature railway, pitch and putt, and plenty of footpaths to explore. The South West Coast Path also passes over the nearby cliffs, offering stunning views of the coastline.
Overcombe Beach is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
