Hive Beach is approximately one and a quarter miles long and features a gently sloping coarse sandy shoreline. The beach is overlooked by farmland and dramatic cliffs, making it a unique and attractive destination. As part of Chesil Beach, Hive Beach is part of the largest tombolo in the UK.
Situated near Burton Bradstock, Hive Beach is a kilometre-wide sandy beach backed by cliffs. The beach is located on Dorset's Jurassic Coast, an area renowned for its rich geological history. Visitors to the beach can explore the limestone boulders that dot the shoreline, which often contain embedded fossils.
Hive Beach has a significant history, having been considered as a potential landing point for German troops during World War II. As a result, pill boxes can still be seen on the beach, serving as a testament to this period. The beach was also used as a training ground for Allied troops preparing for the D-Day landings.
Today, Hive Beach is a popular family destination for a seaside afternoon. The beach is dog-friendly, although dogs must be kept on leads. On a clear day, visitors can enjoy stunning views along the coast, from Portland in the east to the East Devon Coast.
Hive Beach is on the West Dorset Heritage Coast and the Jurassic Coast, and adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
