Bowleaze Cove is a sand and pebble beach resort, approximately one kilometre wide, backed by cliffs. The River Jordan flows across the beach to the sea. At low tide, further patches of sand and a number of rockpools become visible. The beach features a slipway suitable for launching small craft and a short pier used mainly by anglers.
In summer, the beach is popular with families, jet-ski enthusiasts, and bathers, with the water zoned for safety. Children can enjoy paddling in the shallow waters of the cove or in the River Jordan, which enters the sea at the beach. The beach offers various facilities, including a café, gift shop, and nearby pub. During the summer season, a funfair operates next to the beach, and a car boot sale takes place on Mondays in the beach car park.
Above Furzy Cliff, between the cove and the village of Preston, visitors can explore the ruins of a Roman temple at Jordan Hill. From the beach, there are good views over the Jurassic coastline towards Weymouth and the Isle of Portland. In peak holiday season, this can be a good spot to view the weekly Weymouth firework display.
Bowleaze Cove is on the Jurassic Coast, and adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
