Beachlands West Beach stretches for eight kilometres along Hayling Island, from Eastoke Point at the entrance to Chichester Harbour to Sinah Common at the entrance to Langstone Harbour. The beach is primarily composed of pebbles, with sand exposed at low tide. The western end of the beach remains undeveloped, providing a natural and serene environment.
The bathing water is situated on the south coast of Hayling Island, facing across the Solent. At high tide, the beach is predominantly shingle, but as the tide recedes, long stretches of gently shelving sand are exposed. The West Winner sand bank, which extends approximately a mile into the bay at the mouth of Langstone Harbour, shelters the western part of the bathing water. This sand bank is uncovered during low tides. Behind the beach lies a grassed area and a golf course.
Windsurfing was invented at West Beach, and it remains the island's designated windsurfing area. The beach is sheltered by the West Winner sand bank, a spit that extends out to sea and can be explored on foot at low tide. At high tide, the waters can become deep quickly due to the shelving of the beach, but at low tide, the waters are generally shallow.
