Goring Beach is a lovely stretch of coastline that embodies the classic charm of a British seaside destination. The beach features a long expanse of pebbles and shingle, interspersed with wooden groynes that mark the high tide line. Beyond the pebbles, you'll find a flat sandy area that becomes visible at low tide, making it a great spot for beachgoers to enjoy.
The beach is lined with traditional wooden beach huts, adding to the atmosphere and character of the area. Behind the beach, you'll find a large grassy area known as the Greensward, ideal for picnics or playing games. A narrow paved path runs along the rear of the beach, lined with beach huts, and connects the Sea Lane Cafe to Worthing. This path is perfect for leisurely walks or a relaxing stroll.
Goring Beach is an excellent destination for watersports, offering a variety of activities that cater to different skill levels. Popular activities include kitesurfing, windsurfing, and sailing, with local centres offering equipment and lessons for those looking to get started or improve their skills. The beach's conditions, including high tide and relatively calm waters, provide an ideal environment for kitesurfing.
There is a car park close to the sea front and the Sea Lane seaside cafe, which serves breakfast, lunch, and snacks. The beach is dog-friendly, but there are some restrictions. From October 1 to April 30, dogs are allowed to roam freely across the entire beach. However, during the peak season from May 1 to September 30, dogs are only permitted in a designated area near the Sea Lane Café.
Unlike some of its south coast neighbours, Goring has avoided many of the tackier seaside town developments. Instead of amusement arcades, you're more likely to find fishing boats pulled up on Goring beach. The backdrop is the small town of Goring, with the part directly behind the beach having very much a suburban feel. It's a short walk into the town centre, where you'll find shops, cafes, and a train station.
