Coldingham Beach is a sheltered, pristine sandy bay stretching for approximately 1 kilometre, with a rocky shore at either end. The beach faces east, making it an ideal spot to catch the early morning sunshine. The clean sands are backed by grassy areas, giving the place a relaxed, rural feel.
The beach offers good facilities, including toilets, a shower, a cafe, beach huts, and a car park. The beach itself is about 200 metres wide and provides an ideal habitat for a wide variety of marine life. At low tide, visitors can explore the many rockpools, discovering hermit crabs, anemones, and other interesting creatures.
Inland from the beach lies an area of dunes, home to interesting flora and fauna, particularly wildflowers and butterflies in the summer. The Berwickshire Coastal Path passes close to the beach, allowing walkers to explore the surrounding coastline, including St Abbs and Eyemouth. Visitors can also explore the romantic ruins of Coldingham Priory, founded in the 11th century by King Edgar I of Scotland.
The priory, which was destroyed by Cromwell’s troops in the 17th century, is a notable historical landmark in the area. The northern end of the beach features historic beach huts, while the southern end offers stunning views along the coastline from Homeli Knoll and Yellow Craig, a 30-metre high cliff.
Coldingham Beach is adjacent to the Berwickshire Coastal Path.
