Eyemouth is a town that combines the characteristics of a seaside resort and a fishing village. The town features a sheltered sandy beach with some rocks and numerous rock pools, as well as a working fishing harbour.
The historic harbour town of Eyemouth is situated approximately 15 minutes' drive up the coast from Berwick-upon-Tweed. A sandy beach, backed by a sea wall, lies immediately west of the harbour wall. The beach is a favourite among locals and visitors from further afield.
At low tide, plenty of rockpools are exposed, providing youngsters with the opportunity to hunt for crabs, starfish, and other marine life. A marine reserve can be found off the coast, featuring a variety of sealife that attracts divers from around the world. Seals can often be spotted in the bay. At low tide, Hukur Rocks become visible outside the mouth of the harbour. The rocks and the curve of the bay generally provide some protection from the elements, although big storms have been known to generate waves in the bay that can be seen to crash spectacularly into the sea wall.
The town of Eyemouth has some interesting historic buildings and offers a range of amenities, including a good fish and chip shop, cafes, restaurants, and a leisure centre with two swimming pools. The working harbour is an interesting place to wander round, watching the fishermen at work.
Eyemouth Beach is adjacent to the Berwickshire Coastal Path.
