Newgale Sands is a beautiful 2-mile stretch of beach facing due west, making it a popular spot for bathing when the sea is calm. However, storm winds from the Atlantic can bring spectacular breakers onto the beach, making it a great destination for those who enjoy walking and surfing.
Newgale Sands is famous for its gloriously golden sand and 'large surf', making it an ideal spot for surfers. The beach is backed by a natural ridge of pebbles that act as a flood defence at high tide. The beach has easy access for wheelchairs and pushchairs, as well as excellent facilities, including a café, pub, and surf shop at the northern end. Visitors can hire surf equipment or take a lesson from one of the experienced instructors.
Newgale Beach is a haven for water sports enthusiasts, offering excellent conditions for surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing. The beach is suitable for both beginners and experienced surfers, and surfboard and bodyboard rentals, as well as lessons, are available. The Surf Club is located in the middle of the beach, and lifeguards are on duty during the peak season.
The beach features rock pools and caves to explore, especially at low tide. Visitors can walk to the adjacent Cwm Mawr beach when the tide allows. The north of the beach is backed by a campsite, offering visitors the opportunity to stay right on the beachfront and soak up the stunning views. From here, visitors can also walk the coastal path along the rugged cliffs, taking in the breathtaking scenery of the Welsh coastline.
Newgale beach is mostly dog-friendly all year round, with only the centre section of the beach restricted in the holiday season. The northern and southern sides of the beach are free to roam. The beach tends to get quite crowded during peak season, especially in the summer months when families, surfers, and beachgoers flock to enjoy its expansive sandy area and excellent water sports conditions.
