Saltdean Beach, located on the Sussex coast of the English Channel, is a popular destination for those seeking a relaxing day out or an action-packed adventure.
The beach at Saltdean has been formed by recent coastal defence work, consisting of shingle between rock groynes. At low tide, numerous rock pools are created, and the beach is backed by high chalk cliffs. The beach slopes steeply at first but levels off with more sand towards low water.
Saltdean is a village suburb to the east of Brighton, and the beach is situated near a lido and a promenade that stretches all the way to Brighton. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including swimming, snorkelling, surfing, canoeing, and sailing. The beach is accessed by crossing Marine Drive and descending a long ramp that takes visitors down the cliff side. Parking can be found along Saltdean Park Road.
The beach offers a variety of activities, such as swimming, snorkelling, and water sports, including surfing, canoeing, and sailing. At low tide, many rock pools are uncovered, providing an excellent opportunity for children and families to explore them in search of marine wildlife. A café overlooks the beach from a cliff-top position, and further facilities, such as shops and restaurants, can be found a short walk away in Saltdean village centre.
The beach has some restrictions regarding dogs. From May 1st to September 30th, dogs are not allowed on the beach in front of Saltdean Subway and the first beach to the east. For more information on disabled access and facilities, please visit Brighton and Hove City Council's website.
