Bantham Beach is situated on the east side of the mouth of the South Devon Avon, and is backed by sand dunes and the rolling hills of the South Hams. The beach is approximately 550 metres wide and offers great views of Burgh Island and neighbouring Bigbury beach.
The beach is a fairly remote location, but has a range of facilities, including the "Gastrobus" serving snacks and drinks, a pub, and a cafe. There is also a seasonal lifeguard service, making it a safe option for families. Additionally, the Bantham Surfing Academy offers lessons and equipment hire for those looking to try their hand at surfing.
Bantham Beach is renowned for its surfing, and is considered one of the best surfing beaches in South Devon. The beach offers a range of water sports, including bodyboarding and swimming, although the water can get chilly, so a wetsuit is recommended.
The beach is privately owned, along with the village, but this does not affect public access. The beach and village were formerly part of the Evans Estates, and were sold in 2014 for an estimated £11.5 million to a private family.
There is plenty of parking available, although the road leading to the beach can be narrow and congested on busy days. Visitors to the beach can enjoy a range of activities, including surfing, swimming, and simply relaxing on the beach.
Bantham Beach is on the South Devon Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
