Mundesley Beach is a sandy beach with some tidal pools, backed by a raised promenade lined with colourful traditional wooden beach huts. Low cliffs form the backdrop and beautiful cliff top gardens offer an alternative quiet area to sit and relax. The beach is fairly narrow, particularly when the tide comes in, but it is child-friendly and good for swimming and paddling.
Access to the beach is via a fairly steep ramp down the cliffside near to the centre of the village. The beach offers a wide sandy beach at low tide, when small pools are exposed and is ideal for family visits. A cliff top path provides inspiring walks and views. Parking (pay and display) is available nearby and the Blue Flag beach is accessed by steps down the cliffs. The beach has good facilities with RNLI lifeguards patrolling in summer.
Mundesley has been a popular seaside resort since the Victorian railway opened in the late 1800’s, and is still a largely unspoilt beach. The long stretch of firm golden sand is backed by cliff top gardens housing the smallest maritime museum in the world! A further point of interest is a clifftop memorial to the Bomb Disposal teams that cleared the Norfolk coast of landmines post WW2.
The beach is dog friendly, however dogs are limited to a dog-friendly zone from May to September.
Cromer is within a 15 minute drive or three hour walk round the coast. The coastal path is great for long walks, you will also see surfers and other water sports being enjoyed. Mundesley church sits perched overlooking the sea and the cliff top gardens provide an area to relax and take in the view.
In 2017 Mundesley Beach was awarded Blue Flag status, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and safety, as well as water quality.
