The British coastline is home to numerous stunning beaches, each with its unique charm and character, and in this article, we will be exploring two of Poole's hidden gems: Canford Cliffs Chine and Flaghead Chine.

Canford Cliffs Chine is a tranquil beach nestled under the cliffs, offering a peaceful atmosphere away from the more popular Sandbanks Peninsula.

The chine leads from the beach to the local village, approximately 800 yards away, with on-street parking available. Beach facilities include a refreshment outlet, toilets, a beach station, and a full lifeguards service during the summer season. The beach is a popular haven for locals, offering a fine sandy beach with clean and safe water for swimming, making it an ideal location to visit with children. A safe marked swim zone and a lost children patrol are also available. Lifeguards are on duty between May and September.

For those visiting on a wet day, the nearby Compton Acre gardens are worth a visit, billed as among the finest in Europe. Open all year round, the gardens feature a craft shop, café, brasserie, railway exhibition, deer sanctuary, and free parking.

Flaghead Chine is a stretch of golden sand situated between Canford Cliffs and Sandbanks, sloping gently into the sea and backed by tree-covered cliffs.

The beach is a lovely spot, yet it remains considerably quieter than its popular neighbours. Many beachgoers here are from the local area, and it is particularly popular with families. Facilities on the beach are limited, with toilets and a seasonal kiosk available, but beyond this, visitors will need to bring everything they need.

The beach can be accessed by walking along the promenade from Sandbanks, which takes about 5 minutes, or by walking down the Flaghead Chine Road, which takes about the same time but requires finding a parking spot first. Dogs are not allowed on Flaghead Chine beach from 1 May to 30 September every year, and dogs should be kept on a lead on the promenade. One of the beach's most iconic features is the double-decker beach huts that line a section of the promenade, although they are currently booked up for several years.
