Poole Harbour Lake Beach is a quiet sand and mud beach, approximately 340 metres wide, situated within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The beach is surrounded by Ham Common, a nature reserve that is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The beach has a historical pier where barges carrying clay for local pottery used to unload.
The beach itself is sheltered and offers safe bathing in the shallow waters. It is a popular spot for fishing, swimming, and sailing. Visitors may also catch a glimpse of seals swimming in the harbour. The beach is located near Poole town centre, making it an easily accessible destination.
Nearby Shell Bay Beach, located on the Isle of Purbeck, offers stunning views over Sandbanks and Poole Harbour. This beach is a popular spot for sailing and boating, with the Shell Bay Sailing RYA recognised training centre offering lessons and boat hire. The Studland Peninsula, which includes Shell Bay Beach, is owned by the National Trust and offers parking, toilets, and a range of amenities.
