The beach stretches over five kilometres from the tip of Sandbanks Spit to merge with the beaches of Bournemouth. It is edged by dunes at the southwest end of the spit and overlooked by the Sandbanks Pavilion and recreation area. The beach is accessible via a ramp, and wheelchairs are available to hire, making it a family-friendly and inclusive destination.
The beach offers a wide selection of activities, including crazy golf/putting, a beach shop, and a range of watersports such as windsurfing, sailing, and paddle boats. A seafront cafe and other food outlets are situated along the promenade. A marked swim zone and a lost children patrol add to the safety of the beach, and lifeguards are on duty between May and September.
Sandbanks beach has consistently ranked among the UK's top-rated beaches and has held the coveted Blue Flag award for cleanliness and water quality for over 35 consecutive years, guaranteeing the sparkling blue sea is as clean as it looks.
From the beach, there are views to the Isle of Wight and Old Harry Rocks. Just a hop across the harbour mouth are the stunning, pristine beaches of Studland. The Sandbanks chain ferry connects Sandbanks with Studland, carrying both foot passengers and vehicles.
Sandbanks has been dubbed "Britain's Palm Beach" due to its high property prices, with houses routinely selling for several million pounds. Despite its affluence, the beach is welcoming and a great family beach, with local residents and businesses having a stake in maintaining Sandbanks as a clean, safe, and desirable location.
