Shanklin beach forms part of Sandown Bay, which is famous for its long sandy beaches and safe bathing areas. The beach is well served by amenities and leisure pursuits, catering for all tastes.
Shanklin beach is situated towards the south of Sandown Bay on the south-east coast of the Isle of Wight. The southern half of the sandy beach slopes gently up to the cliffs with a rock ledge at its extremity, while the northern half is backed by the resort's esplanade. A stream flows to the beach from Shanklin Chine.
The beach is popular with anglers and offers a range of activities, including safe bathing, paddling, swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Visitors can also enjoy traditional and modern leisure pursuits, such as crazy golf, go-carts, bowling, and amusement arcades.
The beach is lined with an Esplanade featuring cafés, beach shops, and traditional beach huts. There is a slipway down to the beach and a garden with a food kiosk. Visitors can also reach the beach on foot by walking down the traffic-free road (The Chine) from Shanklin Old Village.
