St Ouen's Bay Le Braye Beach is part of the longest beach in Jersey, spanning nearly the full length of the island's west coast. Locally referred to as 'the five mile road', this superb surfing beach stretches for at least three miles along the coast, boasting a vast expanse of clean, golden sand. The beach faces west and is quite exposed to sea breezes as well as a powerful Atlantic swell, making it a popular spot for surfers and kiteboarders who have been enjoying the waves here for over 80 years.
The busiest part of the beach is at Le Braye, which is the most sheltered part of the bay and popular with sunbathers. The sandy seabed and good facilities make this part of the beach a popular destination for families. Le Braye has a wide range of facilities, including showers, and is also a great place to come at any time of the year for bracing coastal walks. Visitors can enjoy a beach barbecue and potentially be rewarded with a spectacular sunset.
Swimmers need to be cautious here as there are strong currents. Those entering the water should not swim beyond the flagged zones and should restrict themselves to areas patrolled by the lifeguards.
From St Ouen's Bay, there are views over Corbiere lighthouse and La Rocco Tower. Corbiere lighthouse lies on the extreme south-western tip of the island, and at low tide, a causeway leads over the rocks to the lighthouse. A siren at La Corbiere warns visitors of the incoming tides.
Watersplash is a popular venue along St Ouen's Bay, featuring a beach bar and restaurant, a nightclub, and home to the Jersey Surfboard Club. There is parking available at various points along the bay.
A nearby beach is Greve de Lecq, a lovely north-facing beach and a great spot for a day out in Jersey. The Prince of Wales, a family-run guest house, overlooks the beach for a bite to eat after a day on the sand.
