Longhoughton Steel Beach is a wide bay comprising sand, rocks, and some areas of pebbles. The beach is predominantly sandy at low tide, but much of the sand is covered as the tide comes in. The beach offers excellent opportunities for exploring rock pools, fishing, and taking peaceful walks in a beautiful setting.
Due to its remote location, there are no facilities at Longhoughton Steel Beach, which means it remains uncrowded. However, parking is available in the nearby village of Boulmer, about half a mile south of the beach. A walking track leads northwards to the beach from Boulmer, offering stunning views of the wild coastline. Visitors can also access facilities such as pubs, shops, and places to stay in Boulmer.
Alternatively, visitors can drive down Crownlea Road and park in the dunes behind Howdiemont Sands Beach. From there, they can walk south to rocky Longhoughton Steel Beach or north to Sugar Sands Beach. It is recommended to bring a picnic and beach towels, as there are no facilities available at the beach.
Longhoughton Steel Beach is on the North Northumberland Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the Northumberland Coast Path.
