Cemaes is a small town overlooking a beautiful bay on the far north coast of Anglesey. The bay is home to Traeth Mawr, a sandy beach with rockpools and a promenade. The beach is approximately 350 metres long, facing north into the Irish Sea, and is an enclosed sandy bay backed by a promenade. A concrete jetty in the southwest corner of the bay provides a small harbour for leisure craft and some inshore fishing vessels.
There are two beaches at Cemaes: Traeth Mawr, also known as Big Beach, and Traeth Bach. Traeth Mawr is a lovely family destination with sand and rock pools, and features the Cemaes Time and Tide Bell sculpture, installed in 2014. The beach has all the traditional seaside attractions, including a slipway giving access to disabled visitors and families with young children. Facilities include free public toilets, including a disabled toilet, located in the main Traeth Mawr Car Park.
The beach lies within the Anglesey Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and part of the beach is within the North Anglesey Heritage Coast. Dogs must always be kept on a lead on the promenade, and there are facilities in place to ensure accessibility for disabled visitors.
Cemaes Beach is adjacent to the Anglesey Coast Path and the Wales Coast Path.
