Criccieth West End Beach, located in the charming town of Criccieth, is a popular destination for families and beachgoers alike, offering a unique combination of rocky, shingle, and sandy shores.

The town of Criccieth sits behind a rocky headland dominated by a 13th-century castle. The rocky beach extends east, gradually becoming shingle and finally sand, which stretches away to Tremadog Bay. This crescent-shaped beach is sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds by the headland, making it an excellent spot for families. The beach tends to be more shingle towards the castle end, while it becomes more sandy as you head eastwards.

A promenade runs along the back of the beach, providing plenty of access points, many of which are suitable for disabled visitors. Beyond the promenade lies the small town of Criccieth, offering a range of shops, cafes, and pubs. The beach is also known as Traeth y Promenade, which comes from the Welsh 'traeth', meaning beach.

The water at Criccieth West End Beach is shallow, with safe swimming conditions, and warm due to the Gulf Stream passing close by. This makes it an ideal spot for water sports, including kayaking and paddleboarding.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach immediately in front of the esplanade; however, if you head east towards the pitch and putt course, dogs are allowed.

On a fine day when the tide is out, you can stroll along the beach to Black Rock sands, and you might spot seals, porpoises, and dolphins along the way.

Criccieth West End Beach has received the Blue Flag award, recognising its high standards and commitment to environmental sustainability.

Criccieth West End Beach is adjacent to the Llyn Peninsula Coastal Path and the Wales Coast Path.
