Porthcothan Bay is on the north coast of Cornwall. It is a rural, sheltered sandy bay, approximately 400 metres wide, backed by sand dunes. There is a stream that flows across the beach. Porthcothan is popular with families, less so with surfers as the sheltered location doesn't make for good surf. Two smaller coves, Long Cove and Totty Cove, are inset into the cliffs on the northern side of the beach.
Porthcothan Beach is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
