The bay is sheltered by high rugged woodland covered cliffs. The East and West Lyn rivers meet at Lynmouth and flow across the rocky beach. The beach is to the east of the river mouth and is approximately 460 metres wide.
Lynmouth Beach is on the Exmoor Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
