Combesgate Beach is situated on the north coast of Devon, separated from the main Woolacombe resort beach by cliffs. The beach is a sandy bay, approximately 440 metres wide, backed by rocky cliffs and is great for rock pooling at low tide. It is also known as Barricane Beach and is located at the far northern-end of Woolacombe.
The beach is made up of a little sandy bay surrounded by beautiful rocky outcrops and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a great spot for rockpooling and is popular among surfers, given the right conditions. The beach is also a good stop-off point for those walking along the coastline towards Mortehoe.
Access to the beach is restricted at high tide, when the whole area becomes a large natural pool. Additionally, there are no lifeguards present on the beach at any time throughout the year. Visitors should be aware of these factors when planning a trip to Combesgate Beach.
The beach is dog friendly, although there are restrictions in the summertime. The surrounding area offers a good coastal walk towards Mortehoe, and the Waters Meet hotel, located on the headland, is a recommended accommodation option.
Woolacombe Combesgate Beach is on the North Devon Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
