Welcombe Mouth Beach is an exposed and secluded bay backed by cliffs, popular with locals. The beach is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its unique geological features, including striated and folded rock formations in the cliffs. The beach is surrounded by cliffs and features a dramatic waterfall, as well as craggy rock pools that are perfect for marine biologists to explore. The main section of the beach is composed of pebbles above the tide line and golden sand below, with rocks scattered throughout.
The beach can be quite difficult to find, as it requires driving along narrow lanes and then walking down a track that leads to the coast. However, the effort is well worth it, as Welcombe Mouth Beach is a quiet and unspoilt spot.
There is a car park near the beach, accessed via a rough track, but there are no other facilities available. The beach is dog-friendly all year round and offers opportunities for surfing and long, windswept walks. The Coastal Path to nearby Marshland Mouth Beach, towards Bude, is also accessible from Welcombe Mouth.
Welcombe Mouth Beach is on the Hartland (Devon) Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
