Blackrock Beach is located at the southern end of Widemouth Sands and is isolated at high tide. The beach is recognisable by a rocky outcrop at its southern end. It is popular with surfers due to a combination of reef and beach breaks on the incoming tide.
Widemouth Bay, where Blackrock Beach is situated, is a wide open bay popular with both families and surfers. The bay has won the Blue Flag award and offers various facilities, including toilets, a cafe, and a seasonal lifeguard service. The beach has a wild feel to it, with low cliffs and numerous interesting rock formations, making it ideal for rockpooling.
Widemouth Bay is considered one of Cornwall's top surfing beaches, with a long sandy stretch of beach on the South West Coast path. The west-facing beach offers long glorious sunsets and great Atlantic ocean views. The water quality is excellent and safe for bathing, with RNLI lifeguards on duty during the holiday seasons. Surfers visit the beach throughout the year to enjoy the conditions, and there are several local surf schools on the beachfront with surfboard and wetsuit hire available.
There is seafront pay-and-display parking on Marine Drive, although it can get busy during the holidays. Dogs are not allowed on Widemouth Beach from Easter until October 1st, but on the south side of the rocky outcrop on Black Rock Beach, dogs are allowed all year round.
Blackrock Beach is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
