Polpeor Beach is a very small, coarse sand beach situated just to the right of Lizard Point. The cove is dominated by the remains of the Old Lizard Lifeboat Station. The beach is considered unsuitable for swimming due to its location and conditions.
Lizard Point, located in South Cornwall, is the most southerly tip in mainland England. The Lizard Peninsula is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including seals, dolphins, and seabirds. Visitors can stop at the National Trust Wildlife Watchpoint, where they can talk to volunteers and view a small but informative display. The area is also famous for its iconic Lighthouse, which offers guided tours and interactive displays. The unique geology of the Lizard Peninsula, including the rare serpentine rock, makes it a fascinating destination for geology enthusiasts.
The rocky coastline and unpredictable weather conditions in the area have caused many shipwrecks over the centuries. The Lizard Point Lifeboat Station, established in 1859, has launched over 300 times to assist vessels in distress in the waters around the peninsula. The station is still operational today, and its volunteers have helped save countless lives.
There is a National Trust car park at Lizard Point, and the area is dog-friendly all year round. However, Polpeor Beach is difficult to access and not suitable for swimming.
Polpeor Beach is on The Lizard Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
