The cove is situated in a rugged granite area, with a small rocky beach, a quay, and a slipway that provides access to the beach at low tide. The eastern slopes of the cove feature numerous small granite boulders, which date back to the time when quarrying was the cove's main industry.
The decaying pier in Lamorna Cove was originally built to load granite onto boats for use in construction, rather than to protect a fishing fleet. At high tide, the beach is largely rocky, but as the tide drops, a reasonable area of sand is exposed. The cove is surrounded by a lovely wooded valley, and the cliff top paths offer stunning views and access to nearby attractions.
Visitors to Lamorna Cove come to enjoy diving and fishing, and the nearby village of Lamorna is a popular destination for artists and walkers. The village is quiet and peaceful, with cliff top paths leading to the Tater Du Lighthouse, Mousehole Beach, and other nearby attractions, including the ancient Merry Maidens stone circle and the entrance grave at Tregiffian, which are a short walk inland.
Lamorna Cove is on the Penwith Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
