Mousehole is a classic, unspoilt Cornish village where some traditional fishing vessels have given way to pleasure craft. The village is well known for its charms and was once described by the poet Dylan Thomas as the loveliest village in England.
The beach is situated inside the harbour walls, making it very sheltered. There is a small, sandy beach in part of the harbour, which is popular with families. The beach has two sections that become separated towards high tide. The slightly larger stretch lies right in front of the village, and the other on the far side of the harbour. Both sections are equally nice and safe.
The sand on the beach is surprisingly abundant, and there are claims that it was shipped in from Padstow. However, its origin does not detract from the pleasant experience of visiting the beach. Despite the village being busy in the summer, the beach rarely gets crowded, partly due to the limited parking available, which tends to fill up quickly.
The beach is easily accessible, and its sheltered location makes it an ideal spot for families. However, visitors should be aware that parking can be limited, especially during peak season.
Mousehole Beach is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
