Beesands Beach is a mile-long shingle beach situated in a quiet rural location. The beach is backed by a large area of grassland and a freshwater lake, known as Widdicombe Ley. A sea wall protects the village, which comprises a line of cottages and a pub, while the coast path runs nearby.
The village of Beesands is a small and traditional Devon fishing village, featuring a church, a row of houses, shops, and a pub overlooking the sea. The beach itself is surrounded by fields and gently rolling hills, with cliffs at one end displaying interesting rock formations. Visitors can access the village and beach via an old country lane, which adds to the area's sense of tranquillity and timelessness. The beach is family-friendly, with a children's playground, and dogs are welcome throughout the year.
In the 1990s, a sea wall was built to protect the village from coastal erosion. Large rocks have also been placed at the high tide limit along the entire length of the beach to prevent erosion and damage.
Beesands is on the South Devon Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
