Salcombe North Sands is situated on the east bank of the Kingsbridge Estuary, approximately 180 metres wide, and surrounded by cliffs. A stream flows onto the beach and into the sea. The beach is easily accessible, being a fifteen-minute walk along Cliff Road from Salcombe town centre. The nearby ruins of Salcombe Castle, also known as Fort Charles, provide a picturesque backdrop to the beach.
The beach is popular with families due to its soft golden sand and clean blue water, making it an ideal place for swimming and sunbathing. The bay provides calm and safe waters for children, and at low tide, the sand is perfect for relaxing. There are several convenient amenities nearby, including ample parking, a cafe, and a shop. The Winking Prawn cafe is located right on the beach, offering a much-needed break and a cup of tea while overlooking the estuary.
Dogs are allowed on the beach year-round, making it a popular destination for dog owners. North Sands has been recognised numerous times as one of the most dog-friendly beaches in the area.
